Our Story

At the beginning of 2009, the United Way of Greater Victoria began UnitedNow! to raise awareness and develop understanding of key issues that impact individuals and families living throughout the Capital Regional District. UnitedNow! provides opportunities for young people (20+) to volunteer, become more engaged in the local community, while meeting new people, having fun, and working together to make positive change.

Getting involved in UnitedNow! allows people to contribute their ideas, skills and energy to support local non-profit agencies on special projects that would not otherwise take place.  Participants become aware of key community issues and learn about the important services provided by the United Way and other local non-profit organizations.

Whether it’s one person or ten; an employee team building event or a just chance to hang out with friends; whether its one hour or one Saturday – being a part of UnitedNow! is being a part of building a stronger and healthier community for everyone.

What is UnitedNow!?

Awareness
Understanding
Involvement

SHARE:   Discuss your community vision, brainstorm fun volunteer events, and
contribute your ideas and thoughts with likeminded peers.

LEARN:  Find out more about local organizations you may not even have known about that exist in your own backyard.  At the same time, build transferable skills which you can apply in the workforce and elsewhere.

ACT:  Turn your ideas and words into action.  Participate in a Day of Caring or other group oriented volunteer event and see the change.

It’s up to you!  How do you want to get involved?

Day of Caring - Volunteer

Day of Caring® is an opportunity for people to come together as a group, to make a real difference in your community. From painting to cleaning, sawing to entertaining having fun doing something completely different for a day.  Day of Caring is not about fundraising or donations but about having a direct role as a community builder - simply by setting aside a day to be involved in something that's tangible.

That's what a Day of Caring is all about. It's about community building made real. It's an opportunity to see the programs and agencies your organization and your people support come to life. It's a special chance to interact with the staff and the volunteers who deliver services to your community.
Host your Own Day of Caring

Find a group of friends, family or coworkers who want to make a tangible difference in their community;

Choose an area of your community you believe can benefit from your assistance.

Remember, even just a few hours can mean a huge difference.   Whether it is putting a fresh coat of paint on a community center or serving dinner at a local shelter, you are contributing to positive change.
